Dr. Mohammad Sirajo Aliyu FNCS
Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu (Dr.) has received the handover notes as the fifteenth President of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS).
Professor Adesina Sodiya, the immediate past president of NCS handed over to Dr. Aliyu at the secretariat on September 07, 2023, in Alausa, Lagos.
Techeconomy broke the news of Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu being the first member from the Northern region to be elected President of the Nigeria Computer Society.
The elections were part activities during Nigeria Computer Society International conference tagged: “Communications and e-Systems for Economic Stability (CeSES 2023)”, which held at the Event Place, Murtala Mohammed Way, Federal Low Cost Bypass, Bauchi on Tuesday August 8 to Thursday, August 10, 2023.
The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is the umbrella organization of all Information Technology Professionals, Interest Groups and Stakeholders in Nigeria.
Formed in 1978 as Computer Association of Nigeria (COAN); and Transformed into NCS in 2002 as a result of harmonization with other stakeholder and interest groups.
NCS is the national platform for the advancement of Information Technology Science and Practice in Nigeria.
Until his election, Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu was the deputy to the immediate past president, Prof. Adesina Sodiya.
Speaking to the press shortly after he was sworn-in, Dr Muhammad said the new executive council will make efforts to take ICT to the grassroots as no organisation or nation can thrive without inclusiveness.
He promised to ensure that Information Technology is at top gear in the country in bid to achieve national development.
The new NCS President, therefore, urged Dr. Bosun Tijani, the new Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, to work with the relevant stakeholders to achieve President Bola Tinubu’s agenda for the technology industry.
“We will take ICT down to the grassroots. We will ensure IT is used to achieve national development.
“The Minister should work with relevant stakeholders like NCS It will be much easier to achieve his agenda,” he said.
In his remarks, the immediate NCS President, Professor Adesina Shodiya lamented that the prominent challenge in the sector is ICT development in Nigeria.
Professor Shodiya noted that expecting are that the country would have moved beyond the current state of IT in Nigeria especially in the area of e-governance.
He added that all the government activities are not yet automated.
Professor Adeshina said there is need to do more in the area of skills acquisition, looking at a situation where the country will build its own robots and commercialise them.
Meanwhile, Dr. Charles Onyeukwu is the new Deputy President of NCS. He is the immediate past Chairman, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of NCS.
